Getting Rid of the Heat Wave: Five Simple Steps to Keep Your House Cool without AC

The weather is getting hotter and you may think that it is the right time to turn on your air conditioning (AC). It is, in fact, just makes the whole condition worse. It may sound like a nonsense but the best way to stand against the heat wave in summer is by turning your air conditioning off. Air conditioning does not only work by consuming electricity which obviously will cost you a lot of money, it is also the contributor of the emission of greenhouse gas emission to the atmosphere which is in charge of trapping the heat inside it and make the Earth warmer. Hence the best thing to do when the weather is getting unbearably hot is leaving your air conditioning aloneand let the nature do its best. Here are five simple steps thatmight leave you in disbelief but trust me, it is possible to make your house cool without AC.

House Cool without AC

  1. Make a Whole House Fan

If you are in a process of building your house and want to make it able to withstand hot weather without spending money on the electricity consumed by the AC, you may need to plant a whole house fan. A whole house fan will let the cool air in through the window and the hot air exits through the attic vents on the upper parts of the house.

  1. Let Both the Sun and the Heat Out

You may need to install blackout curtains. Blackout curtains will block the sunlight while naturally insulating the rooms in which they are installed. The best choice of blackout curtains are they in neutral colours. But if you don’t want to spend money on buying blackout curtains, you can just block the heat from going in by blocking the glass window. The dark spot of the room will feel (slightly) cooler.

  1. Turn the Lights Off

Light bulbs literally give off heat so it’s best to turn them off to reduce the heat in the room. It will not drop off all the heat in your house but it will surely decrease the heat and you may feel the difference especially at night.

  1. Cottons for the Win!

Silk, fleece, and some other clothes trapped the heat and best used in winter. So you may need to change all the sheets of your mattress into light-coloured bed linens. Cotton-based bedsheets are breathable and they have the ability to absorb the heat (and undeniably sweat) from your body. You may also need to change the curtains to the cotton-based ones.

  1. Unplug All Electronic Devices at Night

This last step is probably hard to believe but unplugging electronic devices out of sockets will reduce the total heat in the house.Plugged electronic devices emit heat even when they are not used so you need to check from time to time and disconnect all your electronic devices out of the sockets when the appliances are not in use.

  1. Check your roof

Your chimney is connected to your roof. If your experiencing problems in your chimney, you may need to check the roof. The first thing to do is make sure you dont need a roof repair.
